DNI Coats Statement on the Passing of
President George H. W. Bush

President Bush lived a life of service to the country he loved, and he did so with gratitude, optimism, and dignity. He was and remains widely beloved by the women and men of the Intelligence Community and there is no better reflection of his enduring legacy within the IC than CIA headquarters, where he served as Director and which was renamed the George Bush Center for Intelligence. I had the distinct pleasure of serving under him during his time as Vice President and President, and Marsha and I have treasured our time with him and Barbara after he left office. While Marsha and I are saddened we will no longer have the opportunity to spend time with him, we take heart in knowing he is now reunited with Barbara, the love of his life.
