Many Americans probably don't know that there is a senior official whose job by law is to help ensure that civil liberties and privacy protections are built into intelligence programs. I am that official - the "Civil Liberties Protection Officer." I engage with the director of national intelligence and other intelligence officials to oversee and guide intelligence activities.

The National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), in partnership with the Defense Intelligence Agency's Missile and Space Intelligence Center and the Navy's Office of Naval Intelligence produced the 2013 Ballistic and Cruise Missile Threat assessment. This assessment is an update to the 2009 edition of the same name.

Dr. Peter Highnam was named director of the Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Agency [IARPA] in August 2012, after joining the agency in February 2009 as the office director for incisive analysis. Prior to IARPA, he was a senior adviser in the National Institutes of Health and then in the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.
