November 2003
Seminar on Asian Responses to US
|
The National Intelligence Council held a short conference
under the auspices of G. John Ikenberry on 24 November
on Asian Responses to the United States. The discussion
focused on the rise of China and how Asia, particularly
with respect to the US - Chinese relationship, might
develop between now and 2020. Project 2020 participants
also may wish to read Strategic Reactions to American
Preeminence: Great Power Politics in the Age of
Unipolarity by G. John Ikenberry, an essay about
the pivotal role of the United States which summarizes
earlier discussions of the same group.
The
National Intelligence Council routinely sponsors
unclassified conferences with outside experts to
sharpen the level of debate on critical issues.
The views expressed in the following papers are
those of individual participants. They are presented
not as final reports of the NIC 2020 project but
to stimulate discussion and debate. The papers are
labeled discussion paper --
does not represent the views of the US Government
-- and should not be cited
in any other manner. |
