FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ODNI News Release No. 11-06
JUNE 16, 2006
Senior Leadership Position Announced

Dr. Nancy Bernkopf Tucker
Analytic Ombudsman
Assistant Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Analytic Integrity and Standards

Director of National Intelligence John D. Negroponte has appointed Dr. Nancy Bernkopf Tucker as the first Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) Analytic Ombudsman.

As the Intelligence Community’s Analytic Ombudsman, Dr. Tucker serves as a fact finder, mediator, and facilitator for intelligence analysts who desire to raise concerns regarding timeliness, politicization and objectivity in intelligence analysis without fear of reprisal. She will assist IC analysts who have exhausted all available administrative procedures within their home agency, or believe those procedures will not preserve confidentiality. Tucker will also be available to address matters involving more than one IC element.

Tucker took a leave of absence from her position as Professor of History at Georgetown University and at the Georgetown School of Foreign Service in order to join the ODNI as Assistant Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Analytic Integrity and Standards in January 2006.

She previously served in the Office of Chinese Affairs in the Department of State, at the U.S. Embassy in Beijing and taught at Colgate University and New York University. Dr. Tucker has written extensively on U.S.-Taiwan-China relations and won a 1996 Bernath Book Prize of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and holds a doctorate in history from Columbia University.
