Major Duties and Responsibilities (MDRs)

• Research, plan, implement and evaluate ODNI strategic communications for assigned areas of responsibility that effectively communicates the ODNI's mission, vision, and goals to stakeholders.

• Coordinate with appropriate ODNI staff officials to obtain, review, and when necessary, improve the effectiveness of information to be communicated to the ODNI, the IC, and other internal and external stakeholders.

• Cultivate collaborative relationships of mutual support with communications officers and public affairs staffs at each of the 16 intelligence agencies and components.

• Monitor and evaluate the impact of ODNI strategic communication efforts, and provide structured recommendations and innovative solutions to maximize the effectiveness of communication across the IC.

• Research, draft, and revise speeches, briefings, talking points and messages for senior ODNI leaders.

• Compose workforce communications on behalf of senior ODNI leadership for the purposes of keeping ODNI and IC staff informed and educated about ODNI/IC initiatives, upcoming events, and serving as a liaison between staff and senior ODNI leadership.

• Write/edit official correspondence on behalf of ODNI senior leadership in response to internal and external stakeholder inquiries.

• Contribute written content such as news and feature articles for internal and external publication, and new and emerging communication vehicles, such as blogs, audio, video, and other online publications to ensure that key information is available to all members of the IC and the general public.

• Schedule, coordinate and manage logistics for ODNI events and forums, such as town halls, panel discussions, guest speakers, presentations, and special events.

• Staff events in support of senior ODNI leaders when requested, including assisting with advance work, media coordination, and logistics to advance the DNI's objectives and enhance his/her visibility in the community.

• Deliver, in public settings, presentations and related program materials to senior IC leaders and other designated groups on critical Public Affairs objectives and issues.

Mandatory and Educational Requirements

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

• Demonstrated ability to design and implement innovative communications strategies for IC initiatives and programs.

• Proven communication skills, both written and oral, including demonstrated ability to produce concise and properly-edited products that clearly and logically convey complex information and ideas.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to think strategically, to identify needs and requirements, and to develop recommendations and solutions.

• Direct experience managing small and large-scale projects that contribute to a larger strategic communications plan.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as well as work independently, in a small team, and in a larger environment.

• Proven ability to work with senior officials, to build and sustain professional networks in a fast-paced, multi-tasked.

• Knowledge of and familiarity with the US Intelligence Community and its missions, components, and functions.


Desired Requirements

• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired:

• Experience as a print journalist; experience writing and editing using the Associated Press Style Guide

• Experience with writing for the web such as social media, blogging and the use of content management systems including WordPress, Joomla and SharePoint.
