Brownback

On Tuesday, April 19, Kansas Governor Samuel Brownback visited the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) for a briefing on Refugee Security Screening. In addition to the Kansas delegation, representatives from State, DHS, CIA, NSA, and FBI also participated.  The briefing addressed the federal interagency security screening process for applicants to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. While the Department of State manages the overall U.S. refugee Admissions Program, and the Department of Homeland Security manages the interagency security screening process, only DHS has the authority to adjudicate and admit each individual applicant for the refugee admission. NCTC plays a key analytical role in the interagency security screening process.

Kansas attendees: Adjutant General and Director of Emergency Management & Homeland Security, Lee Tafanelli; Director, Intelligence Fusion Center, Jeremy Shane Jackson; and Policy Director, Office of Gov. Brownback, Brandon Smith.
