Vice President Mike Pence joined Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats for a tour of the National Counterterrorism Center at the Liberty Crossing complex, McLean, Va., August 24. The NATO Alliance faces an increasingly complex, diffuse threat environment.  Consequently, we are always striving toward more integrated intelligence to stay a step ahead.  NATO is positioned to take an important, integrative step in establishing the new Assistant Secretary General for Intelligence and Security.  We fully endorse this, having firsthand experience in undertaking similar modernization efforts within the U.S. Intelligence Community.

Of the roughly 323 million citizens of the United States, more than four million hold federal security clearances. An even smaller number of these individuals hold the highest clearances. They are simultaneously the most trusted—and some of the most scrutinized—individuals in the world. Until now, that scrutiny generally stopped where the real and virtual worlds coalesce: social media.
