DNI Clapper Statement on Rep. Mike Rogers’
Announcement That He Will Not Seek Re-election

I spoke with Rep. Rogers today and thanked him, on behalf of the entire Intelligence Community, for his outstanding leadership and oversight as the chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence since 2011. With nearly thirty years of distinguished public service as an Army officer, an FBI special agent, a member of the Michigan State Senate and as a seven-term member of Congress, Chairman Rogers has served our nation with distinction.

I have always appreciated his deep commitment to ensuring the brave men and women of our intelligence agencies have the resources and authorities necessary to protect our nation. Chairman Rogers is a leading advocate for strengthening protections against cyber threats to our critical infrastructure, industry and commerce. His ability to work in a bi-partisan way with his House and Senate counterparts ensures the passage of important legislation under the Intelligence Authorization Acts and helps strengthen oversight measures and safeguard our nation’s interests.

His departure will be a loss for the Intelligence Community, but in the remaining months of his tenure, I look forward to continuing to work closely with Chairman Rogers on the myriad challenges facing the Intelligence Community and our nation.
