Statement by DNI Clapper on Lt. Gen. Flynn's Retirement Announcement

Lt. Gen. Mike Flynn, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, announced today his plans to retire after more than 30 years of honorable service to our nation.

I had the pleasure of working closely with Mike when he served as the assistant director of national intelligence for partner engagement before becoming the 18th director of DIA. During that time, I came to admire Mike’s superb ability to represent the Intelligence Community on the international stage to our friends and allies around the world.

Throughout his career, whether he was leading intelligence efforts on the battlefield or here at home, Mike earned a reputation as a dedicated visionary who pushed the intelligence enterprise to anticipate and prepare for the threat environment of the future.

As DIA director, Mike has continued his steadfast commitment to ensuring IC professionals have the resources necessary to provide insightful intelligence to support warfighters and policymakers as they face our nation’s most challenging intelligence issues.

Mike and his family have my sincerest appreciation for his exceptional service, dedication to our nation and his many accomplishments as a standout leader in the Intelligence Community.
