Today’s decisive, bipartisan House vote to reauthorize FISA Section 702 marks a critical step in protecting Americans and our allies. Reauthorization is the most important legislative priority for the Intelligence Community. I am committed to ensuring that our officers have the right tools to do their vital jobs—and that they do so consistent with American values of civil liberty, privacy, and transparency. IARPA Launches “MATERIAL” Program

WASHINGTON – The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity, within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, announces today a multi-year research effort to develop language processing software, known as Machine Translation for English Retrieval of Information in Any Language—“MATERIAL”— that will enable users to quickly develop and deploy fully automatic systems that will allow English-only speakers to accurately and efficiently identify foreign language documents of interest across social media, newswire, and broadcasts—to name a few.

Reauthorizing Section 702 before it expires is vital to keeping the nation safe. Let us be clear: if Congress fails to act, vital intelligence collection on international terrorists and other foreign adversaries will be lost. The country will be less secure.
