On June 29, 2015, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court approved the Government’s application to resume the Section 215 bulk telephony metadata program pursuant to the USA FREEDOM Act’s 180-day transition provision. As part of our effort to transition to the new authority, we have evaluated whether NSA should maintain access to the historical metadata after the conclusion of that 180-day period.

Yesterday the Office of the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (IC IG) sent a congressional notification to the intelligence oversight committees updating them of the IC IG support to the State Department IG (attached).

I am very pleased that President Obama announced today his intent to appoint Dr. Raymond “Ray” Cook to be the next Intelligence Community Chief Information Officer (IC CIO).

Yesterday, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court issued an Opinion and Primary Order approving the government’s application to renew the Section 215 bulk telephony program.

At midnight Sunday, with the expiration of three provisions of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the Intelligence Community will lose important capabilities.
