The Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) today released an Inspections and Evaluations report examining the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) programs of six Intelligence Community (IC) agencies.  FOIA programs receive and process requests from the public to access information from the federal government. The programs reviewed in the report are those of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), National Security Agency (NSA), and Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI).

Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) Michael K. Atkinson provided training on whistleblowing matters as part of the 2018 Annual Assistant Inspectors General for Investigations (AIGI) Annual Training. The event was coordinated by the AIGI Committee for the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE). The Committee provides input to the CIGIE Professional Development Committee and the Training Institute on the training and development of the CIGIE investigations community.

Inspector General of the Intelligence Community Michael K. Atkinson will host the 2019 Annual Intelligence Community Inspectors General Conference on March 28, 2019, at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency in Springfield, Virginia. The conference will bring together members of the Inspector General Community to exchange ideas on topics of common interest and provide training through educational instruction and collaborative working group sessions.

Inspector General of the Intelligence Community Michael K. Atkinson delivered two declassified Congressional Notifications on whistleblower communications prepared by the Office of the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) in 2014, to the Senate Judiciary Committee. Now unclassified and re-marked for public release, the Congressional Notifications alerted the Director of National Intelligence and the Congressional intelligence oversight committees that whistleblower-related communications had been accessed through routine CIA counterintelligence monitoring. The new ICIG earned accolades from Chairman Chuck Grassley for facilitating the declassification and release of the documents within two weeks of his October 15, 2018 request.

The Office of the Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) joined a global effort to promote anti-fraud awareness and education November 11-17.  ICIG’s leadership and staff members, which included certified fraud examiners, provided prevention tips and reporting techniques during a workforce outreach event at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence headquarters building in McLean, Virginia.  The event was hosted in conjunction with International Fraud Awareness Week which is sponsored by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Inspector General of the Intelligence Community (ICIG) Michael K. Atkinson, along with Office of Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) senior leaders from IC Equal Employment Opportunity & Diversity, Office of Civil Liberties, Privacy and Transparency, Office of the General Counsel, and Office of the Ombudsman provided information to and answered questions from the National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) workforce about oversight and compliance matters as part of an outreach awareness effort.
