WASHINGTON, D.C. – Director of National Intelligence Avril D. Haines today issued the following statement:
“Given the increasing volume of data that is commercially available, I established a Senior Advisory Group Panel on Commercially Available Information and asked them to make recommendations to the Intelligence Community (IC) regarding how and under what circumstances the IC should use commercially available information, and in particular, to reflect on the existing framework for ensuring the protection of privacy and civil liberties. The panel prepared a thorough report, along with key recommendations, which we are now considering and working to implement.
As part of our ongoing transparency efforts to enhance public understanding of the Intelligence Community’s (IC) work and to provide insights on national security issues, ODNI today is releasing this declassified IC report dated January 2022.

“Mike Casey is an excellent choice to lead ODNI’s National Counterintelligence and Security Center, with years of critical national security experience in a variety of roles. Since 2016, Mike has served with distinction as the Staff Director for the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, leading the Committee’s oversight efforts of the intelligence activities and programs of the United States Government. Prior to his current position, Mike served as a Professional Staff Member on the House Armed Services Committee for over nine years. All told, he has spent over 27 years on Capitol Hill and, if confirmed, he would bring that wealth of experience and expertise to ODNI’s leadership team. We would be lucky to have him leading the Intelligence Community’s work on some of the most fundamental and critical issues and threats we face.”
