Although the U.S. has not seen a large-scale terrorism attack on its soil in almost two decades, threats from several extremist organizations persist and some trends are "ominous," says Russ Travers, the deputy director of the National Counterterrorism Center within the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

The intelligence community’s second-in-command sees technology as a primary driver of geopolitical strength in the decades ahead, and she worries the U.S. will lose its edge unless national security agencies use tools like machine-learning to accelerate their operations.

I am delighted that the Senate voted to confirm the nomination of Christopher Scolese as director of the National Reconnaissance Office. Mr. Scolese’s technical expertise, experience and approach make him the right leader for NRO.
