WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA) — the research and development arm of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence — today launched a new quantum computing program aimed at overcoming the field’s next major challenge en route to its promise of solving physics, chemistry, and mathematics problems that defy computation by classical computers.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Director of National Intelligence Avril D. Haines today issued the following statement:

“It is my great honor to welcome Lieutenant General Anthony ‘Tony’ R. Hale as the U.S. Army’s Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence (G-2). As a career intelligence officer with over 34 years of service, Tony is an extraordinary leader who has developed the Army intelligence enterprise and profession over a lifetime of service, most recently through his leadership as the Commanding General and Commandant of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center of Excellence at Fort Huachuca. I look forward to working with him in his new role.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Director of National Intelligence Avril D. Haines today issued the following statement:

“On behalf of the Intelligence Community (IC), I want to congratulate Lieutenant General Timothy D. Haugh, U.S. Air Force, on his confirmation as the Commander of U.S. Cyber Command, Director of the National Security Agency (NSA), and Chief of the Central Security Service. Lt. Gen. Haugh brings to this position extraordinary knowledge and experience, having served in a variety of leadership positions focused on intelligence and cyber, including as the Deputy Commander of U.S. Cyber Command. He also has a tremendous reputation as a man of integrity and a manager who cares about his workforce. I am grateful to him for taking on this critically important leadership role in our Intelligence Community and very much look forward to working with him in his new position.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Director of National Intelligence Avril D. Haines today issued the following statement:

“Congratulations to Michele Bredenkamp on her Senate confirmation for promotion to Lieutenant General in the United States Army and her arrival at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) as the next Director’s Advisor for Military Affairs! With her extensive experience, to include most recently leading the Army’s Intelligence and Security Command (INSCOM) and previously serving in assignments as the Director of Intelligence, J2, for U.S. Forces Korea and the Vice Director for Intelligence for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, we are very lucky to have her. Michele is an extraordinary leader who brings truly exceptional integrity, expertise, and knowledge to the job of advising us on all military matters of importance to the IC’s work and to promote institutional activities and structures that allow us to better align our efforts with the Department of Defense in service of our national security. I very much welcome Michele to ODNI’s leadership team.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Director of National Intelligence Avril D. Haines today issued the following statement:

“Congratulations to The Honorable Christopher C. Fonzone on his confirmation as the Assistant Attorney General in charge of the Department of Justice’s Office of Legal Counsel. Chris is a brilliant legal scholar and, even more importantly, a wonderful human being. His confirmation is well deserved, albeit bittersweet for those of us in the Intelligence Community because it means he no longer will serve as ODNI's General Counsel. As we wish Chris all the best in his new leadership role at DOJ, we thank him for his sage advice, calm demeanor, and commitment to the rule of law. His service as ODNI General Counsel will have a lasting impact and is all the more noteworthy given the authorities entrusted to the IC. We have depended on Chris time and time again for timely, practical, and sound counsel on some of the toughest questions facing the country and I am incredibly heartened to know that his exceptional judgment will now be relied upon by the Attorney General in this incredibly important position.
